THE PERSON BEHIND THE PORTRAIT

In her own words

I tend not to have many rules in my life, but I do have a few guiding principles that I live by, which have served me well so far. 1. Genuineness. As a person I’m quite outgoing, curious, and observant. I can strike up a conversation with anyone, and tend to speak freely about what I think, observe, or wonder. I don’t take myself seriously and embrace when I fail (and fall!). I try to be myself wherever I go and make sure that I bring my whole self with me no matter the setting. I’ve found that this has a positive impact on those around me, especially as a leader at work where it creates a safe space for others to be truly themselves and open up – which in turn creates an environment that nurtures wellbeing, growth, high performance, and quite a lot of laughs. 2. Presence. We can’t change the past, but we can certainly ruin the present by worrying about the future. As cliché as this sounds, focusing on enjoying the present tense – and actually being present in it – is the most difficult thing to do, especially during this era of constant tech stimulus. It is also the most rewarding thing you can do for yourself, and I find that it’s my biggest source of stress relief; joy; and overall happiness. Flight mode is the most powerful feature on our phones to achieve this. 3. Get in that driver’s seat and take charge. The easy choice is to cruise through life and hold others accountable for things that aren’t working in our favor or giving in to the comfortable place complacency. I’m a firm believer in taking charge of one’s own happiness and ambitions, and not settling. I’d rather fail, knowing that I’ve tried, than never having tried at all.
