THE PERSON BEHIND THE PORTRAIT

In her own words

One of the challenges that women entrepreneurs face is the unequal distribution of funding compared to men. Despite progress towards gender equality, there are still significant differences in the amounts awarded to female entrepreneurs compared to their male counterparts. Several studies and reports show that women receive a smaller share of total venture capital and private investments. This can be due to various factors such as gender bias, stereotypes and lack of representation of women in decision-making positions in finance and investment. Investors often tend to favor projects and companies led by men, creating an uneven playing field for female entrepreneurs. Lack of access to finance can have negative consequences for female entrepreneurs. It can limit their ability to develop and scale their businesses, invest in research and development, hire talented employees and market their products or services effectively. This creates a barrier to growth and can lead to an underrepresentation of female entrepreneurs in different sectors and industries. To address this inequality, it is important to raise awareness of the problem and bring about change at a structural level. Investment funds and financial institutions should implement policies that promote gender equality and inclusion in their investment decisions. There should also be increased efforts to educate and inform women entrepreneurs about funding opportunities and help them develop solid business plans and presentations to attract investors. At the same time, a broader commitment from business, government and society at large is needed to support women entrepreneurs. Mentorship programs, networking opportunities and peer-to-peer support can be crucial to boost women’s capabilities, confidence and access to opportunities. By creating an ecosystem that promotes equal opportunities for all entrepreneurs, we can help break down existing barriers and create a more equitable and inclusive entrepreneurial culture.
