For me, being a Power Woman is about taking power in your own life. To dare to be yourself and not let yourself be dictated and limited. Acting on your own needs and desires. Having the courage to speak up and speak out. A power woman defines her own dreams and goals. She stands up for herself and knows her own strengths and weaknesses. And she is proud of who she is. And she can be whoever she wants, whenever she wants. I’ve been a sports journalist in the world of football, and I sing along to all the anthems and have an opinion about the referee in Parken on Sundays. I’ve served the Friday bar at the School of Journalism and I’ve been ‘one of the boys.’ I’ve worked in the financial sector and been a lobbyist for both tobacco and medicine. But I’m also a mother of two children, bonus mom to three more, and I’m a wife and daughter, and I love to bake for my family. But I also love having alone time with my husband, chatting with my girlfriends or lying in the bathtub with a novel and a glass of rosé. That defines me too. My me time. For me, one of the most powerful things you can do is to prioritize yourself. And I often find that women have a hard time doing that. I have a hard time with it myself. But I’m practicing and I’m getting better all the time, because there has to be room for me in my life. I want it all – and I want it my way. I’ve been a manager in Denmark’s largest business organization, and even though it was a great job, I went in a different direction. It was my need and I let it define my decision. Instead, I have now set up my own consultancy business. Because I want to be my own boss and because it gives me more space. Power is taking control of your own life.
